PICTURES: Luddington gala success, despite the inclement weather

The event began at 1pm when the retiring queen Olivia Lindley and her attendant sister Freya entered the field along with the 2017 recipient Tia Frost who was crowned by LPFA committee member Glen Sands who then officially openred the event.

Local band Domino were on top form throughout the afternoon while fittingly the winner of the dog show went to cricket groundsman Dill Pullan’s King Charles Spaniel Missy who ironically spends so much of her time at the field with her owner preparing the cricket wicket for Luddington CC. Missy won a free wash and blow dry at Abby’s Tidy Tails from Crowle, Abby being the judge in what was a well very popular competition.

Former Luddington and Garthorpe headmistress Mrs Slack was running the children’s races for the 25th consecutive year and as ever there were lots of entrants for the skipping, running and egg and spoon races although the wet conditions meant a reduction in the amount of races being run.

As always the egg throwing competition proved to be a crowd pleaser with father and son Simon and Jack Fletcher winning with what was close to being a gala record before Jack sent the crowd scurrying for cover with a belated wayward throw.

There were lots of stalls around the field and plenty of bouncy castles and giant slides as well as a new attraction of football darts which went down well.

Appleby Frodingham B won the football tournament which was organised as ever by Steve Duffy and the event closed with the drawing of the raffle, the first prize of £100 going to villager Debbie Shukla after which there were around 30 more prizes shared around, all drawn by the new queen Tia.

The LPFA would like to thank everyone for attending on what was a showery afternoon and particularly offer their thanks to all those who both set up and later dismantled the marquees anf BBQ etc and to those who gave freely of their time all day to make the day a terrific success.
