HUNDREDS of people gathered in Mexborough for a summer gala day organised by a local youth group.

Members of Kidz Du Care staged the event outside Highwoods Community Base last Wednesday and drew in over 200 visitors.

Those attending enjoyed a range of attractions including nail painting, tombola raffle and hair styling.

This was the latest community event organised by Kidz Du Care, which is made up of young people from across the Dearne.

The group has just been nominated for a ‘Name a Hero’ award through the British Red Cross for all of their charity work.

They have raised more than £1000 this year and are due to attend an awards ceremony in London on October 6.

Kids Du Care co-ordinator Jill Arkley-Jevons said: “The summer gala came just at the right time after we were told of the award nomination. It was a great way to celebrate and everyone had smiles on their faces.

“I am so proud of this group of young people. They do some great work for the community.”
