Yorkshire Wildlife Park's pollution drive

Bosses at a major Doncaster tourist attraction are hoping to strike a blow against pollution.

The award-winning Yorkshire Wildlife Park is replacing plastic water bottles with 100 per cent recyclable cartons to help stamp out pollution on their own site and in the wider environment.

The eco-friendly paperboard drinks containers are being introduced for visitors as part of a campaign to minimise plastic pollution.

The park, which is based at Branton, near Doncaster, is aiming to become an ocean-friendly water selling zone

The UK disposes of 13 billion plastic bottles every year but only 50% of them are recycled.

Around 13 million tons of plastic enter the ocean each year which has a devastating effect on marine life and climate change.

“We are delighted to offer our visitors a way to help save the environment whilst walking through the park” says Steve Batty, head of catering at YWP.

“It is important as promoters of conservation that we inspire our visitors to look after the planet in as many ways as possible.”

“The cartons are a compelling new way to drink water on the go, whilst limiting damage to the environment.

He added: “We have had an excellent reaction to the water boxes so far which is great to see our visitors taking such an interest in the planets well-being.”

The sustainable water boxes are filled with pure and natural spring water..

The drinks carton is available in four flavours- original, lemon and lime, strawberry and orange and peach.

The park, which says it puts conservation at the heart of all its activities, is one of Doncaster’s best known attractions last year recorded record visitor numbers .

It is home to a number of rare or endangered animals, including amur tigers, leopards, lions, giraffes and many more.
