Yorkshire First have selected Tony Devoy to fight the Thurnscoe and Goldthorpe (Dearne North) by-election.
Tony, who used to work as a miner at Grimethorpe said of his selection:
“I am a Barnsley man, born and bred. When I was younger I was a member of the Labour Party and even used to be a Labour Councillor. But at this election I am not standing for Labour. I am standing as a representative of Yorkshire First.
Labour has lost touch with what made it a great political party. When I was a member of the Labour Party we used to stand up for equality, a decent wage, our schools and the NHS.
“The Labour Party of today has lost touch with all that – and it has started taking places like Thurnscoe and Goldthorpe for granted. That’s why I’m standing for Yorkshire First.”
Richard Carter, Leader of Yorkshire First, said: “We are delighted Tony has agreed to fight the byelection on behalf of Yorkshire First.”
The election will take place on on Thursday August 27.
