Workers right on track!

PROMISING apprentices are on track to become skilled railway technicians after earning places on an award-winning training scheme at a Doncaster engineering depot.

The 25 new starters beat off competition from 8,000 other applicants to win places on Network Rail’s advanced apprenticeship scheme.

They will spend their first year at Europe’s largest engineering training facility at HMS Sultan in Hampshire, before two more years of on-the-job training at depots across the area, including at Hexthorpe, Doncaster.

One of the successful applicants, Simon Kent, said: “I’ve been given the opportunity to work for a company that encourages and supports my desire for real career progression.”
