What’s On in Doncaster Today

The big event in Doncaster town centre this weekend is the Mapfest, with live music at about 20 venues.

There will be free concerts today and tomorrow at Cask Corner, Baileys, Garage bar in the old Woolpack, Vintage Rock Bar, Masons’ Arms, White Swan, The Old Angel, Gatehouse, the Red Lion, Social, Priory, the Horse and Groom, Goose, amd the Cumberland in Wheatley Hills is also having a family fun event.

•Anyone wanting to step back to the wartime era should head for Brodsworth Hall today and tomorrow where the English Heritage venue continues its season of events re-enactignthe build-up to D-Day.

A group of Royal Artillery gunners will be firing their 5.5in gun twice a day and there will be a flypast by a military Dakota transport plane this afternoon and tomorrow.

•Doncaster Astronomical Society is inviting visitors to join them in seeing the Perseid meteor shower this evening, from 10pm, at the Austerfield Field Study Centre.

It is only £1 per person and if it is a clear night you can bring a reclining chair or sun lounger, with warm clothing, for a more relaxed view.

•Mexborough Gala is taking place today from 10am at the Mexborough Athletic Club ground, on New Oxford Road,

It features all the usual activities, funfair, donkeys, face painting, and five-a-side football.

•Fans of Harley-Davidson motorcycles will be heading to Doncaster Market Place today for the Rolling Thunder gala, which runs from 10.30am to 1.30pm.
