An exhibition showing the part Wath soldiers played in the First World War is proving popular with visitors to Wath Library.

The display was only supposed to be up for a fortnight but it has been extended for two months because of its popularity.

It has been put together by Wath Community History Group and features a selection of pictures, newspaper clippings and other information about soldiers who served.

Library and customer service officer Carly Spark, 31, of Wombwell, said: “It has been really popular and is a really interesting exhibition.

“It includes a map showing which soldiers in the town went to war and which ones came back, which really hits home how many people died in the conflict.”

The exhibition is open until September 13. It is free to see in upstairs part of the library.
