A Wath woman was recognised for her long service working for Dearne MP’s at a special reception at the Palace of Westminister.

Irene Hartley MBE, who has worked for MPs in Rotherham and the Dearne for more than 40 years, received a certificate from John Bercow, speaker of the House of Commons.

The 71-year-old, who currently works for Dearne MP John Healey, is the longest-serving constituency-based member of staff in the country.

Mr Healey said: “MPs are only as good as the staff we have behind us and Irene is at the heart of a very good team in Wath. Constituency-based staff are often overlooked, so I am really pleased we have been able to organise this reception.”
