DEARNE residents are being warned not to store additional stocks of fuel in their homes or vehicles as it poses a fire risk.
South Yorkshire Fire & Rescue issued the warning following the announcement of a potential fuel tankers strike.
The brigade said Petroleum Spirit must never be stored inside a domestic premise under any circumstances due to the high level of risk posed by petrol and the highly flammable vapours it releases.
Petrol may legally be stored in domestic locations so long as it is in approved plastic containers and is not in a place attached to a home.
Assistant Chief Fire Officer Neil Hessell said: “Petroleum is a very dangerous substance which we advise should never be kept in a domestic premise. It is advisable that the fuel stocks that you have are conserved by avoiding unnecessary journeys and the adoption of other fuel saving measures.”
