PUPILS at the Highgate Primary Academy, Goldthorpe, are delving deep in to the mysteries of sea life.

Part of the foundation unit at the school has been transformed to a sea-scape, and pupils can now launch their dinghy in the classroom with a lighthouse blazing in the background.

The ‘Under the Sea’ theme extends throughout the school, and on Monday over 200 pupils visited The Blue Planet attraction in Cheshire, to experience a giant aquarium, and an underwater world exploring lakes, swamps and oceans.

Then on Tuesday, children from the foundation unit visited the Deep at Hull.

A spokeswoman for the school said the topic would last for the duration of this term, taking in many different aspects of curriculum studies.

This is Highgate’s first term as a new academy, but the Times was told that no major changes have been made in school as a result of this, to date.
