A South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue spokesman confirmed that firefighters have rescued a woman from the fire.

The extent of her injuries is not yet known.

However, a woman at the scene said she had seen a body being carried from the flats complex, but this has not been confirmed.

A number of residents have been evacuated from the complex which houses a series of one bedroom flats.

A third storey window of one of the flats was broken where it is believed the rescue may have taken place.

Three fire engines attended at the scene and police have been guarding the premises.
