Members of the public were given a rare chance to walk along the bottom of the Sprotbrough lock today, while it was drained for maintenance.
Today was the first time the Sprotbrough lock had been completely drained for 30 years, and over 1,600 people came to see what was below one of the biggest canal locks in Yorkshire.
The Canal and River Trust is investing about £100,000 in vital repairs to the Sprotbrough lock.
And as part of the work a new set of 9.5 tonne lock gates were replaced today, while the lock was drained.
