Michael Thompson, a spokesperson for the scheme said:“We haven’t set a target [of total money we want to give] as we can award money to projects based on merit.

But, in 2014 over £1.4 million of National Lottery funding was invested in Doncaster projects .

“47 grants went to local arts, sports, heritage projects and community groups, helping those most in need.

“However, we would like to see a significant increase on that figure, both in terms of the number of projects we give money to, and the amount of money we actually give out.

“We’ve only just launched, but we’ve had an exciting response so far.”

Grants up to £10,000 will be awarded to causes, such as events, activities and performances which would benefit from some extra money.

Since the National Lottery started in 1994, £75 million of Lottery funding has gone to 1,200 projects in the borough, including Doncaster Women’s Aid, Warmsworth Cricket Club, Doncaster Community Arts and Conisbrough Castle.

If you would like to apply for a grant, you can speak to an advisor at a free event at the Keepmoat Stadium on Wednesday 4 March.

The session will run from 2pm to 9pm, with food and refreshements served between 5pm and 6pm.

Applicants can also e-mail dosh4donny@lotterygoodcauses.org.uk for more information, or call 020 7211 3991.
