The country’s only giant polar bear is settling into his new home at Yorkshire Wildlife Park.

Visitors will be able to see 480-kilo Victor in his new spectacular polar bear reserve from midday today (August 18).

The 15-year-old arrived in England after a carefully-planned trip from his former home in Rhenen Zoo, Holland.

Victor, who arrived via ferry at Hull on Thursday morning, was accompanied by his Dutch keeper Dorine van Appledoorn who stayed at YWP for the weekend to help him settle in.

“We are delighted to welcome Victor to the park and be able to make a contribution to polar bear conservation. Victor has made a great contribution to the European breeding programme and his genes are very well represented now so the decision was made to retire him to YWP,” said Director John Minion.
