People all across the borough were painting the town red last week when Comic Relief fundrasier Red Nose Day returned.

Whether it was wearing red clothes or baking buns, people of all ages got involved and did something funny for money.

Staff and customers at Sainsbury’s Edenthorpe store, Thorne Road, completed a variety of activities to raise as much as possible.

Activities included wearing red-themed fancy dress, waxing hairy men, and dancing round the store to the tune of Tony Christie’s ‘Is This The Way To Amarillo’. There was also a chance to dance in front of the store to Michael Jackson’s ‘Thriller’.

Meanwhile, pupils at Hill Top Primary School, Edlington Lane, took part in a ‘dance-a-thon’ to raise vital funds. They also wore red-themed fancy dress, including noses and wigs.

The money raised for Red Nose Day is spent by Comic Relief to transform the lives of millions of people, both at home in the UK and across Africa.

More than £78m was raised across the country on Friday, the highest ever total for Red Nose Day, which brings the total raised in the charity fundraisers 30 year history to £1bn.
