Denaby former Commonwealth boxing champ Jon Jo Irwin has used his inspirational skills to help disaffected young people turn their hand to almost everything.

Jonjo, 44, and teacher Jackie, 42 and wife Jackie started the Young People’s Personal Development Centre at The Empress in the summer.

They are using Jon Jo’s motivational skills and Jacki’e education background to make a real difference to the lives of Dearne youngsters.

They invited the town’s OAPs to meet them at a coffee morning and sample mince pies baked by the budding chefs.

At the event launched by Doncaster Mayor Coun Ros Jones, Jon Jo said:”There are many young people who have very little sense of their own worth and whose lives are lacking in positive roles models.

“We want to help youngsters build their self esteem and help them to get qualifications.”

Over the last three months the young people have been developing their cooking skills as well as taking part in a wide variety of arts activities.

Refreshments were free for pensioners at the event to raise money for Bluebell Wood Children’s Hospice.
