Thousands of UKIP members and supporters are expected to return to the borough in September for the party’s annual conference.

The UK Independence Party (UKIP) announced this week that their conference will once again be held at Doncaster Racecourse.

Speaking in a statement on their website, a UKIP spokesman said: “Following our great success at Doncaster last year we have decided to go back to this brilliant venue for this September’s annual party conference.

They continued: “Having quadrupled our vote share in the General Election, and with the British people for the first time in 40 years being offered a referendum on membership of the European Union, there has never been a more exciting time to be a member and supporter of UKIP as we continue to lead the political debate in this country.”

The party held their conference in Doncaster for the first time last year, in a bid to send a message to the then Labour Party leader, and Doncaster North MP, Ed Miliband.

The conference’s arrival in Doncaster also followed the party recording strong results in parliamentary by-elections in nearby Rotherham and Barnsley during the previous parliament.

Following this May’s local elections, UKIP currently have two councillors in Doncaster, three in Rotherham and one in Sheffield.

Over 100 anti-UKIP protestors took part in a demonstration through Doncaster town centre as the party’s conference was opened in September.

This year’s conference is set to take place at Doncaster Racecourse between September 24-26.
