Police are appealing for witnesses to a collision at Wath which left two people in hospital with serious injuries.

The incident happened at 1pm on Tuesday on Doncaster Road, next to the Staithes public house.

A blue Ford Ka was apparently turning right from Doncaster Road into Old Doncaster Road when it was in collision with a black Suzuki GSXR 1000 motorbike, travelling the opposite way along Doncaster Road.

The rider, a 22-year-old man from Mexborough, suffered serious lower back and internal injuries. He was taken to Rotherham District General Hospital.

His pillion passenger, a 20-year-old woman from Mexborough, sustained serious multiple fractures to her back. She was detained in Sheffield’s Northern General Hospital.

Police are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone who saw either vehicle just before the impact.
