Tributes have been made to a Wombwell councillor who died last weekend.
Barnsley East MP Michael Dugher has paid tribute to Coun Denise Wilde, who represented Wombwell for many years.
Mr Dugher said: “It was with real sadness that I learned of Denise’s passing over the weekend.
“I visited her in Barnsley Hospice only a few weeks ago and, although we had a good conversation, it was heartbreaking to see how ill she had become.
“Denise was a lovely woman. She was a real fighter for people in Wombwell and for Barnsley. She was also a marvellous Yorkshire woman who had real grit and determination - she never suffered fools - and she possessed a wonderful sense of humour. Her deep and proud commitment to public service and to social justice was a defining characteristic of her long years in the Labour Party and in Barnsley.”
He added: “We have lost one of our own and my heartfelt condolences go out to Raymond and all her family and friends, and in particular to her grandchildren”.
