POLICE were called to two pile-ups along the same motorway this morning which happened just half an hour apart.
Two people were taken to Doncaster Royal Infirmary to be checked over when they were involved in a four-car smash on the M18 at around 7.45am.
A black Audi, a green Mazda, a red Volvo and white Vauxhall collided on the southbound carriageway between junctions four, Armthorpe, and the White Rose Way turn off at junction three.
Police had to close both lanes for over an hour before they were re-opened again after 9am.
A stretch of the M18 between Armthorpe and the A1(M) junction was also closed for 90 minutes following a five vehicle crash just before 8.15am.
A Renault, Vauxhall Zafira, Toyota Corolla, BMW and a Ford Mondeo were involved in the smash. A police spokesman said nobody was injured in the second crash.
The motorway has now re-opened.
