Mr Miliband is opposing plans to reroute the railway through Mexborough and surrounding villages.

The route, which was unveiled in July, would mean the demolition of part of a newly-built housing estate in Mexborough, plus other properties around the borough.

The Doncaster North MP believes the scheme should revert to the original Meadowhall route, which, he says, is better value for money and offers better connectivity for people in South Yorkshire.

Now he is making a final call for people to submit their view to the Government’s consultation, which closes at 11.45pm on Thursday (March 9).

Mr Miliband said: “It’s important everyone with views on the matter makes them known to the government, whatever side of the argument they are on.

“The consultation is an opportunity for the Government to hear directly from people who would be affected by the plans.

“Whatever happens, I will continue the fight for my constituents.”

Mr Miliband has helped spearhead the campaign.

Last month he led a debate in Parliament, putting questions to minister Andrew Jones.
