Passengers from Yorkshire wanting to hit the slopes  can now do so as Chambery, the gateway to Alpine ski resorts, is the latest destination to be announced from Doncaster Sheffield Airport with Flybe.

Chambery in the Rhone-Alps region of south eastern France is the latest Flybe winter programme destination to be announced by the airport, starting from Saturday, December 17 2016.

Given its proximity to Mont Blanc, Chambery offers Yorkshire winter sports enthusiasts’ easy access to some of the finest slopes and facilities the world has to offer.

Steve Gill, managing director of Doncaster Sheffield Airport, said: “We are delighted to be adding a further destination to our Flybe winter programme in Chambery, coming swiftly on the back of announcing Dusseldorf to our new routes with Flybe.”

The announcement of this new route and Dusseldorf make it ten destinations available from Flybe’s new base in Yorkshire at Doncaster Sheffield Airport.

“The new Flybe routes will offer an additional 500,000 seats and with growth from our incumbent airlines, we are predicting double-digit growth in 2016 with passenger figures rising to 1.35 million this year,” added Steve.

Flights will start just in time for Christmas from December 17 2016, flying once a week on Saturdays going on sale from today (March 31) with one way fares available for booking at Click here from £44.99 including taxes and charges.

The new Dusseldorf service will fly four times a week with Amsterdam, Paris, Alicante and Malaga remaining unchanged for the winter with Berlin increasing to daily. Faro and Newquay will be replaced with the two new popular winter routes with capacity to Jersey reducing to three times weekly during winter.

"Being able to offer a winter sports destination as part of our winter programme is a great addition to our offer to customers alongside traditional getaway favourites like Alicante, Tenerife and Malaga,” said Steve.

Flybe’s chief revenue officer, Vincent Hodder commented: “As Europe’s largest regional airline, we specialise in connecting the UK regions to Europe so we are pleased to add to our already extensive winter schedule from Doncaster Sheffield, these two additional routes to Dusseldorf and Chambery. We see them as a natural addition to our network from our new base and are confident that they will prove attractive options both for business travel and for winter getaways.”

Savoie Mont Blanc boasts some 17 areas, over 110 resorts and 4,800 km of slopes offering a range of holidays for all abilities. It includes the world famous Courchevel les Ménuires, Méribel and Val Thorens resorts which are just over 60 miles away from the airport. Chambery offers wider tourism options being next to Lake Bourget, offering breath taking views through many walking routes as well a historical and culturally focussed city centre.
