POLICE have released more details about a man and child who were hit by a train this afternoon.

The man killed at the scene near at Adwick railway station is believed to be a 28-year-old from Bentley, British Transport Police said.

The girl is believed to three-years-old. She was airlifted to Sheffield Children’s Hospital where she was in a critical condition, a force spokesman said.

Emergency services were called to the scene just before 12.30pm after the two were hit by the 10.35am London King’s Cross to Leeds service.

Officers remain at the scene and are trying to establish the full details of why the pair were struck on the line.

Rail delays between Doncaster and Leeds are expected until at least 6pm.
