Trafford Way has now been re-opened to traffic, easing the gridlock that has crippled Doncaster Town Centre for much of the day.

Trafford Way was closed in both directions last night after a wall, understood to be part of the new ‘super surgery’ health centre construction site, collapsed at around 4pm in high winds.

Police said the structure was made safe at 7.30am this morning but the road remained closed, signalling more misery for rush hour motorists.

Traffic came to a standstill throughout the town centre, bringing further misery to morning commuters already hit by roadworks in Balby, Bentley, Lakeside and the M18.

The wall collapsed during yesterday’s gale force winds, which caused damage across the borough including blowing sheeting from the Frenchgate roof and causing part of Asda’s foyer roof to cave in.
