A two-year-old who died in a house fire has been named locally as Libby-Jayne Hornsby.

Cute Libby-Jayne, who lived at the terraced three-storey house with her mum Kelly and six-year-old brother Dylan, died on Thursday night after the blaze in an upstairs bedroom.

She was taken to hospital but sadly died as a result of the inferno.

Today neighbours and friends came to the leafy street in Conisbrough to leave floral tributes.

The cause of the fire is still unclear but one neighbour, who had been walking her dog when she saw emergency services outside the house, said Kelly had been out last night and a young teenager had been babysitting the children.

Zena Wright, who said she is a good friend of Libby’s mum Kelly, and was her “godmother-to-be”, said: “I can’t believe this.

“Libby used to call me Auntie Zena and her brother did too. Kelly and I have been friends for years.

“She promised me I would be godmother when Libby was born. I don’t know what happened last night, I’ve only just heard that Libby has died this morning and am trying to find out myself.

“If Kelly was out she would have been at band practice, she was in a majorettes’ band.

“I’m devastated.”
