Motorists in Doncaster are facing rush hour traffic delays tonight after reports of lights getting jammed on red on York Road.

Drivers on the Great North Road near York Bar have reported tailbacks in both directions in and out of Doncaster following the malfunction which is understood to have happened earlier this afternoon,

It is understood the problem is causing tailbacks into Doncaster town centre and across St George’s Bridge for vehicles travelling out of town and tailbacks along York Road, Watch House Lane in Bentley and Barnsley Road in Scawsby for vehicles driving into Doncaster.

One driver said: “The lights are just stuck on red. Motorists are sat there waiting for the lights to change but are then giving up realising they aren’t going to and sneaking through so its causing jams.

“It has taken me a long time to get into town along York Road and the traffic is backed up all the way to the town centre.”

It is understood engineers have been drafted in to repair the lights.
