A POST-MORTEM examination will be held today on the body of a woman who was murdered.
The 28-year-old woman was found by a member of the public at 4.30am on Sunday in the underpass at the junction of Thorne Road and Queen's Road in Town Moor.
Police immediately launched a murder inquiry after stating that the woman had been assaulted.
A post mortem examination will be conducted later today in a bid to establish the cause of death.
The identity of the victim will not be released by police until her family have been informed about her death. However, detectives said the woman was 28 and local.
Thorne Road has now reopened to traffic after part of it and surrounding streets were closed off yesterday.
The underpass and a section of Town Fields remained sealed off as forensic officers continued their investigations.
