A Doncaster businesswoman has been so shocked by the number of people begging on the town’s streets that she has decided to set up her own foodbank.
Cherry Arnold, who runs the Love and Light store in Bowers Fold, says that around 100 needy people visit her shop every week seeking help.
“It’s becoming like a community,” she said. “We get single mums whose benefits have been stopped amongst others.
“We just seem to be seeing more and more deprivation,” she said. “So I decided to do something.”
Cherry is currently contacting businesses asking for donations of food. She aims to start the food bank on July 1.
