Doncaster has been named as one of Britain’s 100 worst towns - but locals are being given the chance to spare the borough from further misery in a book set to hit shelves later this year.
The town has been included on a list of the nation’s grot spots - which also features Barnsley and Sheffield - and a vote is now underway to whittle the number down to 50 which will appear in a book entitled Crap Towns Returns in October.
It is the first time the list - mostly volunteered by natives of the towns included - has been released ahead of publication of the book which has produced a regular rundown of Britain’s worst places to live in recent years.
But Doncastrians can save the town from being included within its pages - or even ensure it makes the cut into the top 50.
A spokesman said: “Are you incandescent with rage and dispute your town’s inclusion within this list? Or perhaps you want to kick your town when it’s down?
“Either reaction suits us. And now you can maybe influence whether or not the town makes the final cut.”
People can produce videos either in support or against Doncaster which will help judges decide which towns will be included.
The spokesman added: “If you think your town is crap then produce a tourist-style promotional video presenting the grim evidence and upload it to Twitter.
“Or if you see it as a civil slight, and passionately believe your town is undeserving of such opprobrium, then make a video in its defence.
The best videos will be hosted on the Crap Towns website at www.craptownsreturns.co.uk which also has full details of the 100 towns and which also includes Scarborough and Bradford.
