AN infant school can add a national award to its trophy cabinet after being hailed for its commitment to maths and literacy.

The Basic Skills Quality Mark was awarded to Rossington’s Tornedale Infant School because of its determination to keep improving its curriculum, teaching and school life for pupils.

Representatives from the awards scheme came into the school in Gattison Lane to assess how well lessons helped children develop.

Tracey Wild, headteacher, said: “The staff have worked really hard and so have the parents and children so it’s nice to get a bit of recognition now and then.

“My deputy Lisa Almunshi put everything together so I’m glad her commitment and hard-work has also been recognised.”
