RECORD numbers of visitors have flocked through the gates of a popular wildlife park.
More than 500,000 people have been to the Yorkshire Wildlife Park since opening in April 2009.
Over 80,000 visitors went to the Branton-based animal attraction last month - almost 50 per cent up on last year and more than the whole of its 2009 season.
Cheryl Williams, park director, said: “It’s a real compliment to everyone’s hard-work.
“We opened the park to create fun-filled family days out with conservation at the heart of what we do, so to see so many people enjoying what we’ve created is truly fantastic.
“We are so grateful for all the continuing support of the local community and are glad the record number of visitors are now helping boost the local economy and beyond.”
The park boasts an array of wildlife including tigers, lions, meerkats and lemurs.
