IT was yet another triumph in the Doncaster Racecourse calendar as crowds flocked to a Free Press-backed race day.
Hundreds of Doncaster families headed to the Town Moor venue to enjoy a family fun day as well as a concert from tribute act U2-2.
The band was proving so popular with the crowd that they even stayed on stage for an extra 15-minute encore.
More than 9.800 racegoers attended Saturday’s flat race - an even bigger crowd than when McFly played the racecourse last year.
Racecourse managing director Mark Spincer said: “It was a great day of racing with a really lovely atmosphere.
“Those who took up the discount package we set up with the Free Press got a really good value day out and we hope to work more with the Free Press on similar deals in the future.”
The countdown to the St Leger Festival is now fully under way and Mr Spincer added that preparations were going well for the four-day meeting set to attract nearly 60,000 punters.
He said: “It’s all about St Leger now and everything is moving along very nicely. We’ve still got availability for most enclosures so we just need people to choose their preferred days and get their tickets booked.”
