A charity ball held recently raised 11,000 in support of the charity Mesothelioma UK.

Dressed to the nines and raising money for a worthy cause is Thorne’s Amanda Miller (second from right) who was among the organisers of a charity ball in aid of Mesothelioma UK.

Amanda lost her 68-year-old dad Dennis Digby to the silent killer last year and along with friends Fran Milner and Rachel Thackray - whose fathers also died of the condition - have been instrumental in getting the events off the ground.

Previous balls in 2012 and 2013 raised £4,500 and £7,500 respectively, and last Saturday’s event at Drax Sports and Social Club in North Yorkshire raised £11,000.

Amanda said: “Our goal when starting to organise a ball was to try and raise awareness of this awful condition.

“We had no idea that we could raise so much.”

The ball was attended by Mesothelioma UK patron and BAFTA nominated actress Kierston Wareing along with her friend renowned author BW Knight.
