A THEATRE show has been organised to raise money for war veterans in the name of a soldier who was killed in Afghanistan.
Pte Matthew Adam Thornton, 28, from Barnsley, was killed by an Improvised Explosive Device while out on patrol in Helmand province last November.
Staff at Dearne Playhouse in Goldthorpe have now organised a variety performance to raise money for the Help For Heroes charity in Matthew’s name.
Organiser Laura Hoyle said the event was for “all of those who have loved and lost someone in the armed forces.
“The Dearne Playhouse, alongside many talented performers, have created a variety show filled with astonishing dances, songs and dramatic performances, with the goal of raising at least £2000 in aid of the Help For Heroes charity.
“All proceeds from ticket prices, raffle and donation boxes are going directly to Help For Heroes in Matthew’s family’s name to help those who have suffered in the same line of duty that he was in.”
The show, held on Friday, April 20, from 7pm, will feature performers from a variety of community groups including the Nicky Lynam School of Performing Arts, Links for Youth, Wendy Charles School of Dance and the Dearne Panto Section.
Tickets are £5, available from the Dearne Playhouse Box Office between 10am and 2pm on 01709 894128.
