A car park attendant who has gone the extra mile to help patients and visitors to Montagu Hospital in Mexborough during extensive building work has been named star of the month.
Terry Platek was nominated for the award by colleagues who said his infectious good humour is really appreciated by the patients, staff and visitors who come into contact with him, especially during the construction of the new rehabilitation unit.
He has even driven through the site to guide the non-emergency ambulance bringing patients from the wards to the temporarily relocated rehabilitation day hospital.
“Nothing is ever too much trouble for Terry and he always offers service with a smile but his skills have been put to the test in more ways than one while our new rehabilitation centre is being built,” said Janice Edees, manager of the general office team, who collectively nominated Terry.
Terry, who lives in Mexborough, had no idea he was being nominated.
He said: “It has come completely out of the blue, because for me this is just a case of my daily routine – helping everyone is what I feel I’m here to do. I’d like to say thank you to the girls in the general office for nominating me.”
Terry was chosen as May’s winner of the DBH Stars Award by a panel of staff and managers from all the nominated employees and received a certificate and a shopping voucher.
