Doncaster’s annual dragon boat race is to return as it was revealed last year’s event raised more than £11,000 for charity.

Hundreds are expected to descend on Lakeside for the fun day which takes place on July 12. Organisers are hoping this year’s event will be the biggets yet.

John Day, president of the Rotary Club of Doncaster St George’s, is one of the organisers.

He said: “If you want to raise some money for charity, and have a bit of fun doing it, then this is the event for you. Join us down at the Lakeside, where we will hopefully have the same sunny weather.”

Last year the rotary club in conjunction with Doncaster Tourism, managed to raise a total of £11,321 for charities. The amount raised will be split between charities such as the Cardiac Risk in the Young (C-R-Y), which is set to receive a cheque for £4,115 at a presentation evening at Castle Park on February 27.
