A TAXI driver was allegedly punched and kicked by a passenger after he was unhappy with the fare.

The 47-year-old driver from Doncaster firm Alpha Mini Cabs suffered swelling to his right cheek and top lip as well as bruising to his arms and chest following the alleged attack.

The incident is understood to have happened when he picked up a man and a woman on Princess Street and took them to Ashton Drive in Kirk Sandall.

Police said after they arrived at around 3.40am on Monday, April 9, the man argued the fare, got out and then repeatedly started opening and slamming the car door shut.

The taxi driver asked him to stop and then the man opened his door and started firing blows, the Free Press understands.

The alleged attacker is described as being 20 to 25-years-old, white and between 5ft 8ins and 6ft tall.

He is of a slim build with a fair complexion and short, neatly groomed, dark brown hair.

He was wearing a dark blue and white striped top with a sky blue hooded top over it.
