IT’S A double diamond year for a couple as they celebrate 60 years of marriage in the year of the Queen’s jubilee.

Gordon and Margaret Barlow, of Woodlea Grove, Armthorpe, toasted their milestone with a special lunch at The Reindeer in Sandtoft.

Neighbours, friends and family then came together for a party at The Wheatsheaf in Armthorpe the following evening.

Mrs Barlow, 80, said: “I’m not much of a Royalist but I do think the Queen’s done a good job over her reign. I feel proud to have reached 60 years. I think the secret is pulling together. There are always difficult times but you’ve got to get through them together.”

The couple, who are great-grandparents, met when they both worked at Doncaster’s sweet factory Parkinson’s.

Mr Barlow, 83, added: “We couldn’t have asked for a better family and we’re really proud of all of them.”
