The partner of a Thurnscoe stab victim has spoken out in a bid to quell rumours about how he died.

In an interview that followed Philip Smith’s funeral last week, Nicola Lovell issued her plea for peace.

Speculation about exactly how 36-year old Philip met his death has been rife, she told the Times. A 36-year-old man has been charged with murder.

The calm and composed 33-year old said that she recalled little of the events of January 28. It had been an ordinary Saturday, she said. Phil was at home with her son Owen while she had gone out with daughter Emily.
