A special youngster captured the hearts of everyone when picking up the SuperKids Special Award for his sunny outlook in adversity.
The award, sponsored by Doncaster solicitors’ firm, Atherton Godfrey, and presented by one of its partners, Diane Parker, went to nine-year-old , Matthew Faulkner.
In his nomination for the award Matthew was described as a youngster who is amazing and so inspirational.
He was praised by his father Lee and his mother Joanne, who said they had another son Aaron, 14, who was severely disabled and needed 24-hour care, but despite this Matthew never ever moaned.
They said Aaron’s care included frequent hospital visits for chest infections and pneumonia, but still Matthew never complained.
Earlier this year Aaron was taken seriously ill and was rushed to Sheffield Children’s Hospital and into intensive care and his parents were told they could lose him. His mum Joanne said matthew took this all in his stride.
His parents said: “We were at Sheffield for eight weeks and Matthew had to live with his ‘nanna’ and grandad for that period of time. It was a tough time for us all but especially Matthew. We wanted to be with Matthew but we couldn’t leave Aaron.”
They added: “Matthew was a star and he never once moaned, he just moved to his grandparents and got on with his life. He is such an inspiration to everyone who knows him and his attitude towards his brother is amazing.”
