Campaigners from Friends of the Earth will be visiting the site at Daneshill today where drilling is due to take place despite the fact that this appears to be a former munitions site.
Senior Campaigner, Jane Thomas said: “Dart Energy propose to drill even though the drill site is on the location of a 450 acre munitions factory in WWII, a fact they seem to have completely missed.
“So either they don’t know about the factory, or they think an WWII munitions factory does not have the potential to cause any contamination. Certainly sparks could fly.”
Chris Crean, the local campaigner for Friends of the Earth said: “Why should it take the hard work of concerned local people to get the regulators to do their job. David Cameron and his fracking pals keep telling us it will all be ok here in the UK because of our regulatory framework.
“If this is the case why were these explosive issues not picked up by the regulatory authorities when they were allowing this test drill to go ahead. Clearly this is huge failing of what we’re constantly told is a “gold plated” regulatory regime.
