SLIDESHOW: Cream of the crop at Braithwell bake off

The oven gloves were off as keen bakers took part in a cake competition organised at Braithwell’s The Garden Room Restaurant.

Customers were invited to send in a picture of the best cake they bake, including the method they use, and 11 were shortlisted due to their individuality and appearance.

Restaurant manager Stevie Race said: “The final was judged by myself, actor Dean Andrews and restaurant owner Gina Moore.
“We tasted all 11 cakes and judged them on taste, appearance, creativity and saleability and then announced the winner which was Sue Finch with her butterscotch cake, it was absolutely gorgeous.

“Her prize was to have her cake on sale in the Garden Rooms for a month - the followng weeek we must have sold five whole cakes, which is amazing.”

Other entries which impressed the judges was an espresso cake and a raspberry ripple cake.
