Coun Bev Chapman of the Mexborough First political party helped to organise the event and said: “It was an amazing day, it was absolutely fantastic.

“The weather was good, it was packed with people, and everybody seemed to enjoy it. We couldn’t have wished for anything better.

“It really was better than we thought it would be. I’ve had a few sleepless nights worrying about how it would all go as it’s the first time I’ve done anything like this, but it was perfect.”

Visitors enjoyed a range of attractions, including a ‘Mex Factor’ contest, face painting, a classic car display, birds of prey, and a viewing of family film Shaun the Sheep.

Bev said: “Visitors and shop owners said they hadn’t seen so many people in Mexborough for a long time. Trade was up too.

“We got a sense of community spirit back. Everybody was happy.

“Thank you to everyone who helped to plan it all and put it all up, and thank you to all our supporters and everybody who came along on the day.

“Roll on Christmas now, it’s going to be bigger and better than ever before.”
