South Axholme has managed to raise a staggering £462.50 for the shoe box appeal charity. The charity involved donating shoe-boxes filled with gifts such as toys, books and sweets for children in need.
The boxes are sent to children in Africa and Ukraine, amongst others, allowing them the chance to celebrate Christmas and to recognise that people care for their wellbeing.
The project manager, Miss Greaves supervised the scheme, and together the pupils wrapped, filled, checked and posted 196 shoeboxes.
Future hopes are high that records will be smashed next year. Overall the event was heart warming and a resounding success.
The charity events continue into the New Year at South Axholme. In conjunction with the Youth Sport Trust and the British Council, South Axholme School has embarked on an exciting three year international link partnership called the ‘International Inspiration project’ with a school in Uganda.
As part of the 2012 Olympic legacy pledge by Lord Coe, the London games will have an impact on twenty million people in twelve countries around the world.
South Axholme was invited along with the St Lawrence Sports Academy in Scunthorpe to work with schools in Uganda.
The three year project starts with two staff from South Axholme, Mr Barlow and Miss Maddy, travelling to Uganda on February 26 to visit their partnership school.
Whilst there they will meet the staff and students, observe the teaching and learning experiences within a Ugandan school and have a chance to specifically observe the delivery of Physical Education.
After this both schools agree on a three year development plan which will allow both schools to benefit. Mr Barlow said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for British schools to have a real impact on the lives of young people, particularly in Physical Education.
“The 14 UK based schools that travel to Uganda will have an opportunity to feedback their thoughts and recommendations to a steering group which meet with the Uganda education system.
“We hope that by creating this partnership we can share practice and improve the learning experiences for all young people.” The school welcomes their visitors from Uganda on March 19.
