Bus campaigners are celebrating after winning a two-year campaign to get a shiny new shelter.

The shelter, near Markham Road, Edlington, is now just weeks away from completion.

Resident Gwen Grindle, of Clark Avenue, added: “Last year during the dreadful winter and snow, we had no shelter. Depending on the weather, I wait at this stop about three times a week, and it has been a long time coming. I am elated that it is finally here. It is long overdue.”

Edlington councillor Elsie Butler said: “Many residents catch the bus from Markham Road up the hill to the estates at the top of Edlington Lane. When the bus stop was created there was no shelter, but finally we have somewhere for elderly people to sit while waiting for the bus.

“It’s been an uphill struggle – but we’ve won through.”
