Sheffield will host a prestigious two day Pokemon tournament next month.

The Pokémon Regional Championships will take place at Ponds Forge on March 4 and 5 and will feature players of all ages and abilities from far and wide.

The weekend event will features taking part in Pokemon Trading Card Game competitions and also the video game championships.

Pokemon was created in Japan in 1995 and is centered on fictional creatures called "Pokémon", which humans, known as Pokémon Trainers, catch and train to battle each other for sport.

The franchise began as video games and now spans trading card games, animated television shows and movies, comic books, and toys.

Pokémon is the second best-selling video game franchise, behind only Nintendo's Mario franchise and one of the highest-grossing media franchises of all time.
