Sheffield Theatres is searching for local writers to submit new play scripts to be performed at the Crucible. These plays will be chosen by the Theatres’ artistic team and performed in the Studio Theatre on Monday 11 July.
Sheffield Theatres is looking for original submissions to be performed on their first Crucible Writers Night. This is open to writers of all experience levels who wish to have their work performed at the Crucible. Writers are asked to submit work that will be ten minutes in length, to be performed with no more than three actors and with minimal technical requirements. Writers must be based in South Yorkshire and the plays need follow the theme of ‘living in a big society’.
Daniel Evans Artistic Director for Sheffield Theatres said “We are looking for submissions from anyone with a passion for theatre and new plays, especially from local writers or anyone hoping to forge a future career in playwriting or scriptwriting. It’s an amazing opportunity for local people to get involved with us and have their work performed on one of our stages. There is wealth of talent in South Yorkshire; we hope this will help to uncover some of the undiscovered artists in the region.”
Deadline for submissions is Friday 3 June at 6.00pm. This is an unpaid opportunity for a pilot project and does not imply any subsequent development or commission by Sheffield Theatres. All submissions must be as a hard copy and include a one page covering letter detailing writing experience and contact details. Please send submissions marked Crucible Writers to: Jonathan Humphreys, Resident Director, Sheffield Theatres, 55 Norfolk Street, Sheffield S1 1DA
