PUPILS at Sprotbrough’s Copley Junior School have scooped the top position in the Yorkshire Schools’ Gymnastics championship.
Team members Alesha Earnshaw, Olivia Love, Lily Watson, Caitlin Davies, Euan Murgatroyd and Holly Stovin.
The children, who have been training for the past seven weeks, had to perform a two-and-a-half minute routine in front of judges and a large crowd in Halifax.
Teacher and PE co-ordinator Lydia Hull said: “The children performed excellently, achieving the highest score in their section and will now travel as Yorkshire Champions to the national finals in Stoke in May.”
Lily, ten, said, “When we heard the third and second place announcements we though we hadn’t done so well but then when he said Copley are the winners we couldn’t believe it.”
