Further information can be found on its website: Sandtoft Trolley Bus Museum A trolleybus is a rubber-tyred, electrically driven bus picking up current at 600 volts DC from twin overhead wires suspended above the road by way of two poles. Trolleybuses are fast, smooth, virtually silent , free from pollution at point of use and although their use in Great Britain ceased in 1972, they are still operated in more than 300 towns and cities in other parts of the world. In the UK, operational trolleybuses can only be found in three transport museums, the Trolleybus Museum at Sandtoft being the largest.
