WORK can begin to complete much-needed repairs to a theatre venue following a £35,000 grant.

Members of Bawtry Phoenix Theatre Group had raised tens of thousands of pounds to help fund roof repairs and have air conditioning installed.

The group recently received the final £35,000 needed through an Arts Council grant which meant they could begin the work.

The £70,000 project means converting the flat roof above the stage and replacing the old pitched roof above the auditorium at the Station Road venue.

That will provide much-needed storage space, supports for lighting, sound, electric film screen and curtain tracks.

The improvements are due to be unveiled in September.
